STONEWARE CARE: Our Pottery is incredibly durable and made to last generations. Since it is hand-made from specially formulated clay that is custom mixed to our specifications, we recommend the following care to insure the longevity of our stoneware.

  • Place pottery on a solid surface (such as a concrete pad or bricks), not directly on the soil. This will allow it to drain properly.
  • To add weight to a jar or planter use chunks of brick or large rocks.
  • Do not fill with sand, soil or small pea gravel. These materials will block the drain hole and allow water to build up in the pottery, which could cause it to expand and crack when the temperature drops below freezing.
  • Planting directly in the pottery is not recommended. Instead use a plastic liner, plastic nursery pot or a wire basket for jars. For a finished look, cover the exposed soil with Spanish moss, sheet moss or wood chips.
  • In freeze zones, we recommend that the pottery be brought in for the winter, or at least, be covered to protect it from filling with water, snow or ice.
  • When exposed to the elements, our pottery will weather gradually, acquiring its own special patina customary of antique oil jars.
